Inventory of Being – April 20, 2012

Inventory of Being

We are Writers Unleashed and we’re from East Selkirk Middle School.

We like to write about:
politics (particularly Stephen Harper)
Justin Bieber
monkeys
teddy bears
people
fan-fiction
The Yankees
our lives.

We wish:
fantasy was reality (not all of us wish this)
that Justin Bieber was dead and Stephen Harper too
and we all wish we had our teddy bears with us.

We hate:
bullies
vegetables (that’s just one person’s point of view)
when a favorite pen dies
when someone steals your pen (that’s even worse than when they die)
the Boston Red Sox
when people watch us type
and when they read while you’re writing.

We hate:
When you tell someone to stop and they keep on doing what you said not to do.
When you’re going to say something and then you forget it and it’s not until like, a month later when you remember and then you blurt it out and everyone looks at you like you’re an idiot.
When you have an idea and you don’t have any paper and by the time you get some you can’t remember it anymore.
When you tell yourself something to do and then five seconds later you forget and then someone yells at you because you forgot.

We like:
pandas (even if we’re never met one)
writing
supper (you could call it dinner if you want)

We love:
cinnamon rolls with glazing
(now you’re making me hungry)
Donuts
(this talk of food has caused one of us to temporarily pass out)
When you tell yourself something to do and then you forget but right as you’re supposed to be doing it you remember and then (somehow we lost our train of thought…we think we still love this idea…)

We are Writers Unleashed.
And one of us is running amuck.

This week in writing…

We were talking about grandparents and death and what we remembered from when we were younger and then a story started which led to a poem which led to this…

BYE
(a poem – by Lise Belanger)
I don’t know why?
it just happened.
I remember seeing him yesterday
or a few hours ago.
I remember his smile
The way he laughed.
But where? Where is he gone?
“No,” I say, in my head.
We’re off to somewhere,
I don’t know where.
“Wait!”
There is a box
What’s in it?
Everyone’s in black.
So dark
They are crying.
Then I realize
Grandpa is gone…

February 10th, 2012 – just rambling along

Hello World,

Stephen Harper is an idiot like my dog..and Justin Bieber.
Monkeys rule the world.
I like turtles.
I like bananas.
I like turtles (hey, someone else already said this)
I love my teddy bear. (who doesn’t?)
We did not eat in the library.
Can we use something that we did at lunch and just incorporate it into this?
…”yes.”
“Are you talking about six word novels?”
She’s writing everything we’re saying.
(you put “witing”)
No more comments about my typing!
Justin Bieber should not be a singer.
“Is he really that bad?”
…”yeah.”
He has such a girl voice.
Don’t put what I just said!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh great.
We need to stop talking…

February 8, 2012 – we’re back

Hey, this is Writers Unleashed. We’re just starting up again this year so there’s not much to read…yet. But there will be soon. For now, check out Skylar’s poem from today’s meeting. That’s all for now.

“Writing” – by Writers Unleashed

Writing

Pencils scurrying across the page
Beginning to end (much harder than you think)
You like it even when you hate it

Fascinating
Frustrating
Effort
Enthusiasm

It’s a journey
where you let everything out

Need a new pencil.

Thank You – Megwetch

Writers Unleashed would not be possible without the grant we receive from the “After School Arts Enrichment” program from Manitoba Education, Citizenship & Youth/MB4 Youth Division. Grants like this are integral to community arts programming, especially for rural schools. Writers Unleashed, East Selkirk Middle School and the facilitating artist, Mary-Kate McDonald would like to thank them for their generosity and support.

Six Word Novels

Okay, there was this writer (Ernest Hemingway) who was so meticulous when he worked that he could spend all morning putting a comma in and the rest of the day taking it out. Seriously. So, when someone asked him if he could write a novel in just six words — he did. (we don’t know how long it took him…)

Anyway, we decided to try it…

Like an adult, really a kid.
My brother stabbed my eraser savagely.
Friend is obsessed with drawing zombies.
Dog is blind. I am too.
I am insane and I know it.
Friend is psychotic. Murdered him myself.
Justin Bieber sings like a pig.
I want my teddy bear back.
Justin Bieber fever equals Bubonic Plague.

THUMPER! Climbs cage. Don’t touch cage!
STEEBA! Stay away. Vicious creature. BITES!
Ringo! Sticks her tongue to metal.
Polar bear. Cute. Hides in snow.
Excited. Love writing. Awesome writing teacher.

Big dog. Not fat. Large bones.

I make mistakes. You make mistakes.
Isn’t the end of the world.
Familes have their ups and downs.

Daisy is lazy but sniffs daisies.

Want to live in a treehouse.
Love outside. Don’t care about videogames.

Think last donut was a mistake.
Spent all morning writing one paragraph.
Writing novel. In six words. Finished.
She is crazy. Can’t be done.
Six words. Not enough. Need want more.
